SEMI-FRAMELESS SHOWERS | These types of showers are also known as “frameless” showers, but this description is terribly misleading. In actuality, the only piece that is “frameless” is the door. When the door is open, the top, bottom and handle side of the glass have no frame around them. The hinge side of the door has a frame…..so really even the door is not completely frameless. Furthermore, when the shower door is in the closed position, it is difficult to tell it apart from the framed styles in many situations. We use the term “Semi-Frameless” as we feel this is a more accurate way to define this type of shower enclosure.

This leads to the question, “Why should I install a Semi-Frameless when they are basically the same as Framed shower doors?” Semi-Frameless shower enclosures are a better shower enclosure in the by-pass, or slider, configuration for example. In the by-pass configuration, the opening looks cleaner and larger as there are no frames around the doors. Frames around the doors draw your eye to metal running vertically through the middle of the opening. Semi-Frameless showers also add a more elegant touch than framed showers as the fixtures are always drilled through the glass vs. being affixed to the frame.

Like Framed shower doors, Semi-Frameless use 3/16” and ¼” tempered glass. These showers are offered in a range of finishes with many different patterns of glass to choose from.
